VODA Lounge is a newly opened restaurant in the sovereign mall, Portmore. Recently we swung by to see what they were all about and left mostly satisfied.
The air-conditioned venue is small but fully utilized with contemporary designs. Soft, comfortable leather chairs and clean wooden tables occupied the space. LED lights lined the floor, giving a club-like vibe.
VODA lounge is ideal for anyone who wants a party vibe in a comfortable setting. When we arrived, the music played at a moderate level, with a low-key genre. Throughout the night the variety changed to reveling selections.
We turned up to a quarter-full venue, so we received constant attention from the servers. From our observation, the entire staff was pleasant, prompt and alert during the entire time. There was no delay on the food.
Our Take on the Cuisine
Rundown Bruschetta -the first bite came with a burst of flavors in my mouth. The creaminess from the coconut milk, along with the natural herbs, made this dish a plus.
If I should add one critique, it would be that the saltfish needed about seven more boiling minutes.
Mango Jerk BBQ Pigtails– again, it needed more boiling time. Because of this, the saltiness, mixed with the sweet salsa, created an undesirable clash. Also, the pigtails could have still used more cooking down with the sauce.
Separately, the sauce had all the right flavors and spice, but it did not quite transcend to the meat.
Additionally, there was too much fat. Would have preferred more lean meat.
Next came the Chicken Chop Salad with the assortment of crunchy lettuce and carrot strips, diced chicken, eggs, mellow apples, juicy tomatoes and bell peppers. If you’re looking for a healthy option, this refreshing dish is it.
Apple Cinnamon Pork Chops– it looked like heaven on a plate and tasted just as good. The pure sweetness from the stunning pork, combined with sweet-savory cinnamon and crispy apples made the recipe a standout. It was served with fried plantains and a tangy mustard sauce.
We’ve added VODA Lounge to our must-return list. The vibe and the food were great, and the customer service experience was one of the better ones.
A fluke? We hope not, but we’ll find out soon enough.
