On a visit to Portmore we found Timber Lounge, a bar and grill in the newly opened Sunshine Outlet Mall.

Venue

Stepping in, the creative designs that ran through the venue immediately caught our eyes.

Bottles and glasses that hung from pallets on the ceiling.

The ‘zinc fence inspired’ design against the wall.

Elaborate red couches that added a pop of color to the interior.

All of this, along with wooden tables and chairs, gave a modern but rustic flair.

They play music at a considerate level, giving the opportunity for easy conversation.

We learned that Timber Lounge accommodates most group sizes, with the maximum of twenty per group.

The lounge permits children in the venue up to 10pm, which is a reasonable time.

Service

No one greeted us at the door, but the bartender saw us looking around and came to our assistance. He gave us menus and directed us to seats. A server approached just after we sat.

Service was pretty decent. Our server maintained constant care throughout the night.

Menu

I liked that it contained enough items without overcrowding. Also, the reasonable prices were a plus.

After placing our orders, we had a short wait before the food came. We had:

Vegetable and Plantain Quesadilla. An unusual dish; which meant I had to try it. I love the combination of stir-fried vegetable, ripe banana and melted cheese. Together, they gave a sweet, crunchy and gooey feel in my mouth. But the star of the dish was the sauce, which took the dish to a new height.

P.S. They’d run out of plantains and used the bananas as a substitute. I would have loved to taste all the signature ingredients.

BBQ Wings. Most often, we can’t resist ordering wings from a menu, but this time, I wish we had. Though the meat was plump and moist, it lacked the expected punch. The spices were lost in the dish.

BBQ Ribs

The glistening ribs came with a good layer of seasonings. It was mildly sweet, with a slight chewiness. The tanginess from the BBQ sauce took it up a notch. Served with sauteed veg and mac and cheese, the dish was more than a bellyful.

Hawaiian Pork Flatbed was our favorite. Freshly baked and topped with goodness—oh my!

On the first bite, a sweet smokiness from the bacon and chorizo sausage greeted my taste buds. Combined with melted cheese herb tomato sauce, grilled pineapple, sauteed bell peppers and onion, it was heaven on a slice.

After rating the entire experience, we recommend dining at Timber Lounge.

I’ll definitely return to try the Vegetable and [Plantain] Quesadilla.

    2. As for prices: Not included in the review was also a bowl of red peas beef soup, a bottled water, one cranberry juice and a glass of moscato. All that plus the food posted in review came to a total of approximately JM$8,500
