In Jamaica, a TGIF! franchise is located in uptown Kingston, and whenever I’m in the need for comfort food, or if we want to be a part of a lively atmosphere filled with life and excitement, this is the first restaurant that comes to mind, TGIF Jamaica. On this particular night, Bradley and I were both in the mood for something cheesy and gratifying, so we drove 18 kilometers to get our fill, and trust me, the distance is always worth it. At the entrance, we were greeted by a pleasant hostess and ushered into an atmosphere that is animated and energetic.
We were given an option have our meal at the bar, or dine on a table; we chose the bar, as it exposes you to a more dynamic dining experience. You are able to watch the talented bartenders mix the drinks while juggling them in the process, and it is entertaining to watch while you wait on your meal. However, if you are in need of a low-key setting, the tables would suit you just fine. Although it is an international franchise, this particular restaurant offers a touch of Jamaican culture through the attitude and behavior of the staff.
On this trip, I ordered sizzled chicken and shrimp with cheesy mashed potatoes, while Bradley chose the Cajun Chicken and Shrimp. This is my favorite dish on the menu and believe me, it never disappoints. The chicken breast was moist, with a smoky flavor ;the fat, juicy shrimp that is accompanied by julienne stir fried tomatoes creates a party in your mouth, and if you try combining them with the creamy mashed potatoes, I’m telling you, it’s heaven! I’m salivating right now.
Of course, Bradley’s dish was not to be outdone. If you are an avid cheese lover, this dish is definitely up your street. The tantalizing sight of the dish creates a natural mouth-watering effect as soon as the dish is presented; the chicken was bursting with nicely blended flavor of seasonings that made my taste-buds come alive; such as , the succulent shrimp was infused with flavors were nicely balanced and added a great complement to the entire dish.
The other ingredients such as sweet pepper, tomato and of course-the main event- cheese- was like icing on a cake. Whenever we visit TGIF!, that’s the only dish that Bradley wants to have.
If you should ever visit a TGIF! to try any of these dishes, remember to have your sneakers on standby! As with any comfort food, it sure carries a lot of calories and cholesterol, so when you’ve had your fill, you’ve gotta work it all off. But trust us, its worth it!
